Our washes are done by loads, not by amount of blankets. It is recommended to use 6oz-8oz of wash per load. More or less depending on the amount of blankets being washed in the machine, and amount of soiling. While we say you can use more or less as needed, we never recommend more than 8oz of wash. Therefore, you should get at least 4 loads of wash completed.
As a reference, I only use approximately 4-6oz of soap per laundry load. I am able to wash: 2 average size heavy weights, or 3 average size mediums, or 4-5 average size light weight blankets in the machine at a time. So therefore, I am able to get 5-8 loads of wash done with a 32oz bottle.
It should treat at least 4 blankets. It greatly depends on the size of the blanket you are treating, and since everyone has a range of blanket sizes, it is hard to be specific. Blankets should be freshly clean, and damp (but not soaking wet, as you don’t want your solution running off) when being used. Spray onto the blanket until thoroughly coated, let dry and cure…which may take up to 72 hours to achieve full results. Then store away for the season until ready to use.
NO. The fly sheet wash is different than our regular Zesty Lemon wash as it has added natural cleaning boosters. We were able to add these cleaning boosters since fly sheets do not have a water-repelling treatment which we work so hard to protect with our regular washes. Fly sheets are also challenging to get clean, so we have added a natural, gentle dirt cleaning booster made of soy. There are NO peroxides, NO bleaches, NO whiteners, NO “oxygen” powered boosters. Washing in cold water is still recommended, as we recommend with all pet/horse wear. Our fly sheet spray however, is a fly repellent that works by spraying directly onto the fly sheet.
*We have not tested this product on turnout sheets or blankets with waterproofing. While we believe it would be safe, we do not recommend.
(Almost) Anything that is washable, by hand or by machine can be washed in Blanket Safe. It can be safely used on fly sheets, horse blankets (stable and turnouts), wraps, boots, washable girths, saddle pads, fly masks, your blankets, fleece and wool, dog beds, your cloths, it can be added to spot cleaners and you can clean your truck carpets. The uses are endless, want to put in a spray bottle and use as a fabric cleaner…go for it.
Once dry, Blanket Safe is considered hypoallergenic. We understand that horses are always trying to prove us wrong, and we always have that one horse that is allergic to the air it breathes, so we like to say “considered” for that one rare horse.

You can wash your horse wear by hand or by machine. We find that it works best in an industrial strength machine that can be found at a laundromat. (please be considerate, spray off any excess dirt or mud before using a laundromat). On a positive note, the anti-bacterial properties of Blanket Safe works to clean the machine as well after use.

Depends on what you consider Waterproof. Blanket Safe products are designed to treat breathable fabrics, and keep those breathable fabrics functioning. We do not use wax or silicone ingredients, so what our products do is coat the individual fiber, rather than coating the entire fabric as a whole (like a shell).
Because blankets are made from breathable fabric, it makes waterproofing VERY Difficult, and pretty impossible if treated with the correct product, and safely. What Blanket Safe products will do is increase the amount of time that a horse blanket can be in the wet before the blanket starts absorbing water. While the top layer may appear wet, most turn out blankets are also equip with an inner waterproof barrier to help slow the process. Blanket Safe products will help to keep that barrier intact as well. We like to relate the waterproofing of a horse blanket, to that of a fire door. A fire door is NOT fireproof, but it will increase the amount of time you have to get out in an emergency situation, before that door is engulfed.
